Fall Guys is one of the most popular games among kids today. This game is a multiplayer battle royal that requires you (or your team) to complete various tasks to progress into the next stages until the final showdown where one person is left standing! Because of the harmless nature of the game and the simple mechanics, this game is rated for everyone to play and we completely agree. This game is great to play for children and adults so make sure you get involved too! Fall Guys is free to play and available on PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch. A full game of Fall Guys can take anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes depending on if you make it past the first round! Because the game is solely played online, there is no pausing or stopping once you start so it’s important to make sure that you have time to complete a round. One of the best parts about this game is the cute jellybean characters that you play. These characters even have cuter cosmetics to be earned or bought to really personalize your character or your team.

Gameplay

Fall Guys is one of our favourites to play, especially with friends! Essentially, characters challenge each other either solo or in teams to complete each arena's objective. However, it's not as easy as it sounds! There are a large variety of maps including different objectives and obstacles which would challenge even the best gamers. It might be a race, it might be the last man standing, who knows! Most games of Fall Guys are split into five rounds either solo or with groups of up to 4 people. You will then enter a randomized arena with up to 60 people. Then, at the end of each round, the players who lost are eliminated, until only a few remain for the final showdown where one person or team left standing wins! The different arenas all have different themes and objectives to really challenge the players. Matches generally consist of 4 or 5 rounds, and each round can last approximately 1 to 5 minutes (up to 20 minutes total).

Each arena has a certain tactic to it, but you can also just run around like crazy and hope for the best like most people do! You can also be crafty and push other players to make them fall (although this is not the main point of the game). The arenas are all bubbly and cute looking so there is nothing to worry about. It is certainly not your typical thought of an arena. Imagine balloon rhinos charging at you to knock you off the map or giant seesaws moving up and down. The game can be surprisingly challenging as well. There are some areas we refer to as ‘nightmares’ just because we are so traumatized at how much we suck at that specific arena each time we get it. But no matter how defeated we felt, it was always a great laugh and a lot of fun! Fall Guys introduces new seasons every couple of months so there is always new content to keep everyone engaged and excited for what is to come. This can also bring with it new maps, challenges, and cute cosmetics!

Education

There are few educational aspects to Fall Guys, however, this is a great introduction to gaming for any beginner. Especially for younger children, this can really help them to develop their dexterity and coordination. Throughout the game, you have to time your jumps correctly, problem-solve your way through obstacles, and react quickly to the changing arena. The gameplay is very simple and you have the option to play seriously or just play for fun! This means that it is a great way to introduce kids to the gaming world and let them work on their dexterity.

I think one of the best things about this game is that on the racing-type arenas if you fall off the arena, it will bring you back to give it another go until the time runs out! I like the idea that you can keep going and in fact, sometimes you can get ahead from falling if you find the right spot! It really helps to build confidence for the player to keep trying again and again until the timer goes. While you might want to give up, it gives you the opportunity to keep pushing until the last second which sets a lovely message.

Violence/ Adult Themes

This is not a game where violence or adult themes need to be worried about. The only thing worth mentioning is that you can grab onto other characters and push them, but this is not portrayed as violent or inappropriate in any way. Other than this, there is nothing to worry about. Just pure cute jellybeans!

Monetization

Fall Guys is free to play across all platforms, however, the game does contain two in-game currencies known as ‘Show-Bucks’ and ‘Kudos’. Show Bucks are only available as part of the Season Pass or can be bought using real-life money. or real money. Show-Bucks can be exchanged for different character customizations such as changing their appearance colours, outfits, accessories, and how your profile looks.

Kudos are unlocked through regular play. So, the more you play the game, the more Kudos you earn! The better you do in the games also gives you a chance to earn more Kudos. This can again allow you to trade in Kudos to get different customizations.

While you can get different customizations, there is still a reasonable chance to earn them through gameplay, so it is not essential to spend your money on these. You also are provided with a standard colour change for your character at the beginning which you can lock in so you won’t need to buy anything straight away. It is also important to know that there are no game benefits to the customizations other than looking adorable!

Safety

Falls Guys only has an online mode which means you can only play against real-life players. There is no local offline mode (play with friends on the same console) or AI mode (play against the computer). Even though there is only online play mode, there is no way to communicate with others unless they are on your team. Only teammates can communicate either through text or voice chat when you are in a party. If you are playing alone, then you will not be talking to anyone. However, if you are playing in teams you will need to be aware of this feature. If you do have concerns about this, chat can be disabled in the settings menu so there is the option to turn this off. Communication is not really necessary for this game so it would not affect the playability of the game if chats was disabled.

Tips and Tricks

Fall Guys was developed by Epic Games who have implemented a fantastic Parental Settings option. Be sure to check this out and alter the settings to how you see fit given that the game is only available to be played online. This can include options for email verification when your child wants to add a friend, spend real-life money on the game, and gives you a report of how much they have been playing the game.
